Fabrication combines cutting, forming, welding, machining, and assembly to produce brackets, guards, frames, supports, weldments, and custom industrial assemblies.
What our standards mean
For sheet-fabricated features, Spartan uses the following default tolerances when the drawing does not specify something tighter. Critical fit, functional, cosmetic, and weld requirements should always be shown on the print or agreed to at quote review.
- Same-surface cut feature relationships: typically +/- 0.010 in where applicable.
- Edge-to-bend and bend-to-hole relationships: typically +/- 0.015 in.
- Across-bend and formed overall dimensions: typically +/- 0.030 in.
- Bend angle: typically +/- 1 degree.
- Large burrs and process tabs are removed; normal fabrication and tooling marks may remain unless a cosmetic finish is specified.
Weldments and mixed-process assemblies are reviewed to the customer drawing, fit/function requirements, and process capability. We do not apply sheet-metal default tolerances blindly to a welded structure when the drawing requires something different.
When to call out requirements
Specify critical datums, mating surfaces, weld symbols, distortion-sensitive areas, cosmetic faces, coating requirements, and post-weld machining on the print. Those requirements drive the manufacturing and inspection plan.
