Project Overview
This two-piece, low-volume project involved CNC machining 6061-T651 aluminum chamber floor plates with large circular recessed and sealing features, precision hole patterns, threaded features, and post-finish inserts. The parts received a clear chromate conversion coating and completed standard inspection before shipping ahead of the requested date.
Project Snapshot
- Industry: Advanced Technology
- Work type: Low-volume precision machining
- Material: 6061-T651 aluminum
- Quantity: 2 pieces
- Processes: Multi-operation CNC milling, drilling, threading, clear chromate, threaded insert installation, inspection
- Finish: Clear chromate per MIL-DTL-5541 Type II, Class 3
- Surface finish: 32 Ra on general surfaces with a 15 Ra sealing surface requirement
- Inspection: Standard inspection covering surface finish and threaded features
- Total turnaround: 14 days
Capabilities Demonstrated
- Low-volume CNC machining from 6061 aluminum plate
- Large circular recessed features and sealing geometry
- Precision hole patterns and threaded features
- Controlled surface-finish requirements
- Clear chromate finishing coordination
- Post-finish threaded insert installation
- Final dimensional, thread, and surface-finish inspection
Manufacturing Approach
The plates were produced through multiple CNC milling operations to establish the exterior profile, circular recessed geometry, precision bores, hole pattern, and threaded features. Clear chromate was applied before fourteen threaded inserts were installed in each part. Final inspection verified the specified surface finishes and threads before shipment.
